Dr Bushra Ali
Dr. Bushra is a highly accomplished physician specializing in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine, with an extensive career spanning clinical practice, public health, and policy development. Currently serving as a Professor and Consultant at The Aga Khan University & Hospital, she has played a pivotal role in shaping national healthcare strategies in Pakistan. Her expertise includes guideline development, policy formulation, and the horizontal integration of vertical disease control programs.
Dr. Bushra’s leadership during critical health crises, such as the 2019 Ratodero HIV outbreak and the COVID-19 pandemic, highlights her contributions to outbreak investigations, vaccination strategies, and national policy development. As the National Coordinator for the Common Management Unit for Global Fund AIDS/TB/Malaria grants in 2021, she secured over USD 90 million under the Global Fund COVID-19 Response Mechanism, strengthening Pakistan’s health systems and advancing TB, HIV, and infectious disease management.
Dr. Bushra has been a member of several WHO expert committees, including those for Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) and Ebola Virus Disease guidelines. Her research contributions include projects funded by USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Global Fund, focusing on TB notification, antimicrobial resistance, and co-morbidities like diabetes and TB. Her work has resulted in numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals, addressing topics such as sepsis, TB, COVID-19, and AMR in Pakistan.
A Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) and the American College of Physicians (FACP), Dr. Bushra has been instrumental in advancing clinical and academic excellence in infectious diseases in Pakistan, earning recognition as a leader in her field.
